Fire safety and compliance has become a significant issue for the Australian construction industry on the back of several tower fires which have attributed highly combustible aluminium cladding as a significant contributor to the spread of fire.
More than ever, all stakeholders within the building process must be more accountable and informed when specifying non-combustible cladding products and systems.

Fire Performance Compliance
There are 2 pathways for compliance under BCA:
Frequently Asked Questions
Standards Australia introduced AS5113 in March 2016. The Standard sets out procedures for testing and classification of external wall systems in relation to their ability to limit the spread of fire across the surface of the building and between neighbouring buildings. AS5113 aims to improve safety and performance standards in buildings across Australia.
The CodeMark Certification Scheme is a voluntary third-party building product certification scheme that authorises the use of new and innovative products in specified circumstances in order to facilitate compliance with Volumes One and Two of the NCC, also known as the Building Code of Australia, or BCA.
CodeMark provides confidence and certainty to regulatory authorities and the market through the issue of a Certificate of Conformity, which is one of several options available for meeting the ‘evidence of suitability’ requirements of the BCA.
All buildings in Australia must comply with the requirements outlined in the Building Code of Australia (BCA). A Certificate of Conformity can be issued under the ABCB’s voluntary CodeMark of Australia, or CodeMark scheme, as evidence that a building material, method of construction, or design fulfils specific requirements of the BCA.
For property owners, the AS5113 EW offers peace of mind that the materials used within their property have secured the most comprehensive fire safety rating for external walls available in Australia. Additionally, the Cemintel Territory range with AS5113 EW rating has been added to the existing CodeMark Certificate 30048 following recent testing. This is key for both compliance with the BCA and to meet the requirements of some insurance companies.
All buildings in Australia must comply with the requirements outlined in the Building Code of Australia (BCA). Compliance can be achieved by reference to the Performance Solution using AS5113 EW, or through the Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions. Cemintel Territory complies with both options.
Concerned building owners can ask their architect or builder to explain the fire properties of the materials being used in their project.

AS5113 EW specifically sets out procedures for testing and classification of external wall systems in relation to their ability to limit the spread of fire across the surface of the building and between neighbouring buildings. Use of the classification can form part of a building solution.

To achieve the EW classification of AS5113, organisations must undertake a rigorous testing process and ‘Pass’ ALL criteria.
Some organisations while having tested to AS5113, may not have met all the ‘Pass’ criteria of the test, in particular relating to the debris requirements. Organisations may have attained a CodeMark Certificate, however, this may not include the EW rating.
Cemintel Territory is proud to have achieved AS5113 EW classification for the Territory range, which is included in the CodeMark certification and openly shares the CodeMark certification and AS5113 test report with the public.
Cemintel products have not been impacted by the withdrawal of CodeMark certifications.
All Cemintel products may be used to meet the Deemed-to-Satisfy requirements wherever a non-combustible material is required as outlined in the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

No. Cemintel's Territory range was previously certified with CodeMark for AS 5113. Some minor changes were made to the system and the EW classification was recently added to the CodeMark certificate. A set of details specific to construction with EW classification is included in the latest Territory Design and Installation Guide for both horizontal and vertical external applications.
The AS5113 is the most up-to-date method for the testing and classification of external wall systems in relation to their ability to limit the spread of fire across the surface of the building and between neighbouring buildings.
Cemintel is committed to supplying quality materials and systems to help build safe and compliant buildings.
The AS5113 EW is the most up-to-date certification for the testing and classification of external wall systems in relation to their ability to limit the spread of fire across the surface of the building and between neighbouring buildings. The Cemintel Territory AS5113 EW classification confirms that all the criteria requirements of the test have been passed, including debris requirements.
For property owners, the AS5113 EW classification included in the CodeMark Certificate 300048, offers additional peace of mind that the materials used within their property have the additional rating added to its existing CodeMark certificate following recent testing and have secured the most comprehensive fire safety rating for external walls available in Australia.
